Type description

van Geel 1978: The characteristic dome shape and size (up to 80 X 53 μm) suggest that Type 81 fossils represent parts of only one arthropod species (or of a few closely related species). Found in micro- and macrofossil samples. In one sample (81.a) the connection between two eyes was preserved. Shortest distance between the eyes about 120 pm. Ommatidial openings 4-5 μm in diameter and surrounded at the outer side by a 2-4 μm high cylindric rim. Holes 2-4 μm apart. The surface between the holes covered with thin, about 2 μm high setae.
